The SAP Evaluation Process
Step by Step
1. Initial Evaluation
The SAP conducts an in-depth interview to assess the employee’s substance use and identify any underlying issues.
2. Treatment or Education Recommendation
Based on the evaluation, the SAP will recommend a treatment or education plan tailored to the employee’s needs. This can include counseling, rehabilitation, or substance abuse education programs.
3. Follow-Up Evaluation
Once the employee has completed the recommended plan, they must undergo a follow-up evaluation to ensure compliance and readiness to return to their safety-sensitive role.
4. Return-to-Duty (RTD) Testing
The SAP will provide the employer with a report confirming that the employee has successfully completed the process and is eligible for Return-to-Duty testing.
